Shoulder straps and a wraparound waist band built into one piece, so the upper back and the lumbar area are held together rather than separately. Vertical inserts run along the spine to give the back section its structure. Every strap adjusts, and the whole thing lies flat under clothing.
A shoulder band plus a separate belt means two items to fit and two tensions to balance against each other. A vest does both jobs at once and keeps them working as one. The inserts stop the back panel folding over when you draw the straps in.

Close the waist band first so the vest is anchored, then draw the shoulder straps down to the tension you want. Wear it over a thin layer rather than directly against the skin. Hand wash it and dry it flat so the reinforcing strips stay straight.
Put it on and set both straps to suit you.
