A rail of hooks that you flip up one at a time and press back flat against the wall afterward. Folded out, each one takes a coat, a bag or a towel; folded in, all you see is a narrow line. Versions run from two hooks up to six.

Fixed hooks stick out on the days nothing hangs on them, and in a narrow hallway that is exactly where your shoulder goes. These fold back to a few millimeters. You keep the storage and lose the protruding points.

Drill the holes level at roughly a meter and a half, and a long coat hangs clear of the floor. In plasterboard, use a hollow-wall anchor rather than the standard plug supplied. Fold the hooks back after use so the rail stays flat and collects less dust.
