Why choose shoes with a sealing membrane?

Water on a wet trail arrives through the upper, not up through the sole. A membrane blocks that direction while still letting vapor from inside pass out. That is the difference between an hour of walking and turning back.

They lace through metal eyelets and want a few short walks before a long route. Clean them with water and a soft brush rather than a machine. Let them dry away from direct heat so the membrane keeps its shape.
